Archaeological work preceding a housing development revealed mid-Devensian (MIS 3) deposits preserved in a geological fault, a graben feature, on an interfluve plateau. Rare evidence for Early Upper Palaeolithic open-air occupation was characterised by a scant lithic signature of the Lincombian-Ranisian-Jerzmanowician (LRJ) leaf-point techno.   As ice retreated from Brit years ago, a host of large mammals including reindeer, wild horses, wooly mammoths, moose, wolves, brown bears, lynxes and wolverines established itself in Britain. The largest surviving wild land mammal today, the red deer, the largest contemporary land carnivore, the badger and another 65 or so extant wild mammals included about a quarter of the 1/5(1).

of our dominant mammals except the opossum have been introduced from Britain. Of the 41 native New Zealand species (bats, seals, and whales) 15 are on the British list, and the proportion in our introduced fauna rises to about 17 of 32 species. The "about" is necessary because of difficulties in deciding what to include in the comparison. Britain’s Sea Mammals is the essential field guide to all the sea mammals — whales, dolphins, porpoises, and seals — found in coastal Britain. The book features more than stunning photographs and close to 40 detailed and beautiful illustrations of 34 species of sea mammals, paying special attention to the 14 species most readily seen and most likely to be encountered.

The mammal faunas of MIS 3 Britain have been assigned to the Pin Hole 'Mammal Assemblage-Zone' (MAZ) Jacobi, , ; Table 1), after the contents of the Lower Cave Earth at Pin Hole, Creswell.
